Across Set, there are no two words that are met with more revulsion and loathing than "talking crabs". Even for species teetering on the brink of extinction, it is a rallying call to hatred. Whether in space or on the land, underground or at the bottom of the sea, sentient pseudocrustaceans are hated with a passion all across the planet. Crab nations have rallied together man and alien alike, placed xenophobic murderers alongside redworlders and Zaschia, all to drive out the crustacean menace.
That intelligent pseudocrustaceans command so much hatred is no mistake. The rise of a pseudocrustacean tribe is like that of a great flood and famine all in one. Endless swarms of hard-shelled primitives swallow up resources in their area and lash out at nearby towns. Diplomacy is often useless; within a week, a new generation will have taken over and forgotten whatever past ties their elders forged. Countless communities have been wiped out to the last man by ill-advised tolerance. Crab raiders have shattered and swallowed up hundreds of groups of nomads. Across Set, the crab is feared and hated.
