BIG FOOT
The Big Toe is cleaner than the rest of Talto, but it is most definitely not clean. It has been scorched and battered by artillery and combat vehicles to the point where nearly its entire surface is a dismal, muddy grey. Native flora and fauna cluster in rotting swamps and craggy woodlands - and are rare to be seen anywhere else. Meatscapes abound along the margins of patrol routes and often take root in surface caverns. Snow in the highlands often comes already stained with crimson, adding a pink coating to their countless canyons, summits, and ridges.
The underground of the Big Toe is a foul, blood-drenched place stalked by subsurface meat monsters. Cave-dwelling meatscapes regularly extend their tendrils throughout the shallow parts of the underground. Ordinary monsters swarm tunnels in perpetually-migrating masses. Fighting above the surface routinely collapses tunnels and caves with artillery fire. Deep below, open caverns are plentiful - and often flooded with ichor or infested with nightmares. Psywaves from above and below rebound through caverns. To go below is a death sentence for all but the most hardy. Even Loonies are hesitant to explore the Toe's depths.
The sky at the mountain's foot is a dreary orange, streaked by crimson clouds intermingling with the summit's whites and greys. Meat tornados, gallstone hails, and all manner of viscous weather rampage out from the Crimson Expanse. Psywaves regularly ripple out from denser meatscapes, some travelling as far up the Toe as the Digit Peaks. Further up, weather calms, blues and whites return, and storm shelters lose their virtue. Blizzards, barrier auroras, and weather more typical to arctic regions pervade through.
While life is scarce on the Big Toe, there is one creature that has refused to submit to the taint of the meat; mankind. Small villages dot the mountain, often paired with Looney outposts and militia alliances. Roads blanket the Toe's higher points and fray out into innumerable dirt paths and patrol trails at its base. Bloodied ghost towns linger near old and dying meatscapes. Seared, rubble-strewn craters mark the locations of the few Looney bunkers that chose death before dishonor. Vehicle wrecks, cultist and Looney alike, serve as landmarks for many paths.
Terrorscapes are plentiful along the Big Toe. Most cluster near its base, typically around cavern entrances and swamplands. Meat men, spidrils, and other common sights near meatscapes are all regular visitors. Further up, anomalous activity trends towards peaks and valleys. Placid wildlife, on the other hand, is decidedly limited. Guttersnakes and naskatters are some of the only creatures not ready to attack wanderers on sight. Ecological niches are limited even in the few places free from the touch of the meat.
