This topic is a child of the Sorassan article directory.SCREEN KILLERSThe sorassan are, at their core, hardly much different from mankind. They are practically-minded, socially-conscious creatures able to imitate others and invent solutions of their own accord. They can cooperate with animals, others of their own kind, other intelligent species, and machines - where feasible. Notable differences include their behavior around wildlife and other intelligent species; around equals, the sorassan are often skittish and flighty. Around animals and robots, they are markedly more aggressive, most especially towards creatures smaller than them. SECTIONS- Thought Field- Physical Performance & Posture- Food Selection

THOUGHT FIELD The most significant feature of sorassan biology is a disruptive electromagnetic field generated by conscious thought, or "thought field". The field is centered directly on their brain and ranges in overall size, dependent on cognitive activity. At rest, the field is usually no larger than the size of the individual's head. During strenuous mental tasks, it may be anywhere from 1 - 3 meters in overall diameter. Sizes vary heavily between individuals. This field is capable of causing significant damage to unprotected electronics and similar equipment. As a result, the sorassan have been ironically gated off from technological development by their own intellect.
Despite this, it is a core component of sorassan communication and reproduction. Most sorassan use subtle cues given off by the field in a manner similar to pheromones, and its overall composition can be as intrinsic to an individual's identity as the sound of a human's voice is. Many sorassan are sensitive to alterations in the field and can use it as an additional aid in perceiving their environments. In reproduction, interactions between two fields are required for proper fertilization of egg pouches, as well as early embryonic development.

PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE & POSTURE Relative to humans, the sorassan are strong, controlled, and have startlingly-fast reflexes. Combined with their hardened claws, most sorassan are impressive climbers despite their bottom-heavy appearance. What they lack are speed and resilience. Away from their homeworld, sorassan blood pressure is incredible, and open wounds bleed profusely. A general lack of truly solid matter in their bodies leaves them vulnerable to piercing injuries. Muscle tissue is grown almost wholly to support their body and cannot often keep up with their swift reflexes.
Sorassan posture and gait are traits dependent primarily on leg count. Sorassan with fewer legs are more likely to stand and walk with their legs spread and their bodies low to the ground. Those with more legs often prefer to stand high. Many-legged sorassan walk with their legs loosely desynchronized, in a way that has often been compared to that of a spider or water strider. When sprinting, fewer-legged sorassan stand and run with a gait similar to a human. Many-legged sorassan run with a fluid galloping motion coordinated between each pair of legs.

FOOD SELECTION The sorassan are omnivorous predators that are strongly biased towards plants and small animals. In particular, the sorassan favor softer foods with no skeleton or rigid elements. This is primarily due to their lack of teeth or flexible mouth parts. Food is digested over the course of a week or longer, and expelled primarily as liquefied waste. The sorassan digestive system is especially efficient in processing plant matter; plants edible to sorassan can often satiate them for weeks at a time and may be broken down so effectively that no visible waste is created. Similarly, the sorassan need very little water to survive. In especially humid environments, an active sorassan may need no more than a few liters each year.
While most sorassan settlements are dependent on agriculture, hunting is generally preferred over farming. Likewise, ranching is often a more popular alternative where feasible, especially in areas with prevalent game and compatible biospheres. Cannibalism is only marginally less stigmatized in sorassan communities than others. Likewise, many lineages of sorassan suffer from genetic disorders that render many of their bodily fluids toxic to other sorassan. Predation on other intelligent species is rare. Paleworlders are the sole exception; many towns value paleworlders as a hunter's delicacy.
