This topic is a child of the Paleworlders article directory.STEALING THINGSDue to their predominantly-feral nature, paleworlders lack any central society or common cultural traits. Packs develop only limited customs. On occasion, a pack may evolve into a fully-fledged tribe and attempt more extensive cooperation. Under ordinary conditions, this is the terminus of paleworlder advancement. Harsh environments, limited prey, or other dangerous circumstances may oblige packs towards mutual cooperation. In extreme situations, this has resulted in the formation of small villages or nomad groups. Few are able to last longer than a decade. Resultantly, the few paleworlders that acknowledge any form of culture take from that of other species. Most are brought up by humans or unionites, and go on to adopt their caretakers' customs. Redworlders come in at a distant third place, but constitute an unusual majority of cultural influences. Paleworlders themselves rarely raise children; most lack the capacity to act as parents in anything but an intermediary role. Community care is a common choice. Larval paleworlders may even be inadvertently raised by communities simply through repeat interactions.

FERAL RELATIONS Though limited in sociability, paleworlders are strongly responsive to simple reward systems. Consequently, some communities have adopted feral paleworlders as pets. They are used in this capacity as hunting companions or guards, in a fashion none too dissimilar from dogs. Some communities have established limited relationships with feral packs for similar purposes. Paleworlder bloodsports are startlingly common, and feral paleworlders are renowned for their skill as gladiators. Socialized paleworlders are reputed as some of the most dangerous assassins on Set.
Predator and prey relationships are bidirectional for paleworlders. Many communities with nearby paleworlder populations will actively hunt them for food. Paleworlder blood in particular is often used as a flavoring or texture additive for some dishes. Loonies view paleworlder packs as priority threats to surface patrols. Extermination efforts are often launched through purposeful overhunting. In a curious twist of fate, paleworlders are universally edible to most species. Redworlder settlements regularly carry out the same overhunting Loonies do. Sorassan prize paleworlder meat above most others.

INTERSPECIES PREJUDICE Paleworlders command an immense stigma from most other species. They are seen variously as vermin, monsters, or murderers. Many communities kill paleworlders on sight, both on Set's surface and in orbit. Redworlders in particular hold paleworlders in contempt. Their early history was rife with killings, while present-day paleworlders continue to prefer redworlders as prey. Prejudice from humans and sorassan come close behind. Socialized paleworlders are rarely viewed much differently.
Parasitization by paleworlder spores is a divisive subject for most cultures. Myths on the subject are endless. More primitive communities see it as a curse or an ill omen. Some go so far as to kill people who have been infected, before or after any spores have detached. Some suggest that being infected by a spore will eventually change a host into a paleworlder. Others suggest that paleworlders can take on the form of the host they were born from. Even educated communities take a dim view on the infected; a spore infection suggests poor hygiene or regular visits to paleworlder-inhabited areas.
