THE CULT OF MEAT
Nestled in the heart of the Crimson Expanse and the Southern Veinlands, a death cult rules with a fist of bone and sinew. They call themselves the Ascendant Church of the New Oath, the Last Chapel of the Dying Unity, the Faithful of the Flesh, and many other monikers. To a handful of historians, they are known as the Second Invaders. To most on Set, they are known by a less grandiose title; the Cult of Meat. For as much bluster and viscosity as they give over to the outside world, the Cult, at its core, is simple, honest, and undeniably wicked.
The Cult of Meat is made up of various sects and orders dedicated, in one way or another, towards furthering the spread of the "meatscapes". The meatscapes are the spreading, blood-soaked, monster-infested living landscapes scattered across Set. To the Cult, they are known by more respectful - and uncountable - titles, such as the Growing Gospel, the Caress of the Crimson Cloud, or the Plague of Healing. The majority of the Cult lives, thrives, and is corrupted in these meatscapes. For many, they are as much a part of the meat as they are its caretakers. For many, their greatest hope is to unravel into raw flesh atop a pile of gelatinous ichor.
Naturally, the Cult of Meat is at odds with every living creature on Set. The Loonies, Space Loonies, townsfolk, and even the beasts of the wilderness stand ready to push them back. Yet, in face of their sheer loathliness, the Cult of Meat is the fastest-growing movement on Set. Many towns are dependent on food and security provided by cultists - or simply terrified into submission by the Cult's many meat monsters. Many Looney bunkers remain silent and self-centered for fear of attracting the attention of nearby monster hordes or cultist armies. Those that falter in the Cult's presence are absorbed into their ever-replenishing numbers - trapped in a nightmarish cycle of death and rebirth in abject corruption.
The Body of Bounty, one of the Cult's best-recognized emblems. Most sects maintain their own variation of it. Ribcage imagery is a popular modification.
