THE LOONIES
Tucked away in military bases ranging from two-man listening posts to thousands-strong super-bunkers are Set's eldest faction; the Loonies. Hardy, self-sufficient, and largely isolationist, the Loonies are not so much a faction as they are a globe-spanning alliance of individual fortresses. From their underground facilities, the Loonies are largely - and begrudgingly - responsible for the prosperity of countless towns and villages across Set. Likewise, they stand as one of the few organized counterbalances to the Cult of Meat, and have been instrumental towards containing their related meatscapes.
In keeping with their name, the Loonies are a conundrum on Set. They have existed longer than Set has been inhabited. Their disparate influence crosses the entire surface of the planet and extends hundreds of kilometers below its surface. Active bunkers and abandoned ruins often lie unknowingly beside eachother. In the midst of it all, Looney facilities often appear from nothingness - many are simply forced up from the Chambers of Myth over the course of centuries. The lost bunkers given up by the planet's underground come with little knowledge of their disappearance or emergence - and for every one that is populated, ten more are found as husks.
In a way, the Loonies are a part of Set as much as its oceans and continents are. They are, have been, and will be with Set. They do not know why, nor can anyone explain for them. They do not care why. For all the mystery surrounding their relationship with the planet, the Loonies are concerned with nothing more than surviving to see another day.
Badge imagery commonplace among Looney miners. Occasionally used for other branches of service with modified colors.
