SUMMARY
A unionite cybernetics' specialist. Acts older than he is. Is obsessed with upgrading all organisms with cybernetic implants. Lacks ethics and morality, is driven by ambition and curiosity, does not seem to care much for the Union or any other group for that matter. Suspected of tampering with patients' implants.
APPEARANCE
Body:
- Baseline unionite clone, male.
- Brain-in-a-jar configuration, sustained by cybernetic augments and chassis.
- Replaced all organic material with cybernetics.
- No known scars or deformities.
Apparel:
- Custom-model unionite cybernetic housing; akin to a robotic jellyfish.
- Brain encasement at the center of the chassis. Smaller profile due to decapitation, compensated with additional armor and tools.
- Sustained flight through internal SNM and maglev modules. Maneuvering provided by modular thruster array at bottom of the chassis.
- Eight long tendrils or pseudopoda extend from undercarriage of the 'saucer'. Has two manipulator arms on the sides of the chassis. Usually kept folded within it.
- Ebony hull. Thrusters and optics housings are a dark red. Equipment panels are also onyx. Brain encasement is red.
Equipment:
- Hologram emitter array fitted onto its front.
- Baseline 3P2I-APD laser defense weapon mounted to upper chassis on turret.
- Custom-model K-02 laser emitter weapons mounted on the tips of each tendril.
- Cyberwarfare module integrated directly into cybernetics. Affords additional processing power, bandwidth.
- Personal medical and repair tools mounted around body encasement.
BEHAVIOR
Personality:
- Irritable, lacks patience.
- Proud, has an over-inflated self worth.
- Unpredictable, often changes his mind at whims.
- Lacks moral or ethical behavior.
Skills:
- Extensive background in medical surgery and cybernetic engineering.
- Strong understanding of physiology and computer sciences.
- Skilled in combat skills.
- Poor social and leadership skills.
- Abysmal tolerance for people who hate cybernetic augments.
Culture:
- Classical unionite. Emphasizes learning and collating data.
- Upbringing in unconventional simulation; lacks social etiquette and ignores social cues.
- Can speak and understand all extant languages.
- Speaks all audible languages with perfect, if with synthesized and electronic voices.
GOALS
Major:
- Visit Set's surface.
- Observe locals' capabilities.
- Compile information on weaknesses and limitations of organic morphology and physiology.
- Convince locals to willingly submit to cybernetic augmentation.
Significant:
- Establish a cybernetic research facility.
- Start up the advent of the transsapient age.
- Form a pro-augmentation organization with like-minded individuals.
Minor:
- Destroy the Meat.
- Force Meat cultists to abandon the Meat.
- Turn Meat cultists into cyberthralls.

HISTORY
Octam's story is very much similar to any other of the Union's many defectors. He never quite fit in with the rest of his peers, not for a lack of social skills or anything of the sort, indeed many regarded him well enough, as he had a rather polite and charming demeanor- that is when you ignore the fact that the man prided himself and often boasted about his increasingly maniacal ideas and procedures to further augment both himself and his patients. He may have, at times, gone further beyond that what his patients often asked for, while undergoing surgery. He had on multiple occasions been caught stealing parts and electronic components when his funds ran low, and animals from pet stores or his own neighbors were often reported missing after a few days whenever he was around, only to turn up as cybernetic abominations, outfitted with combat modules and miniaturized laser weapons systems or even microbombs.
It wasn't long after Octam was quickly kicked out of the Union for continued disregard for ethics and other unionites' quality of life, his ambition and lack of scruples making him as a public enemy. In the end he decided to pack up, grabbing whatever things he could carry, mostly his tools and such, and made off towards Erf, leaving the comforts of the Unionite station for the freedom that Set offered. The world was, as they say, his oyster.
