Uh, Whoops
Zaynashev was originally established as a Timosi colony on the border of the Anchorage Colonial Exclusion Zone in roughly 2132 A.F. The planet had originally been meant to serve as a mining colony, but discoveries of primitive alien life mostly halted its initial exploitation. After several years of independent study and the establishment of a handful of permanent research facilities, the Timosi Republic went to work on establishing the planet's mining industry.
Mining on Zaynashev took an awkward turn over the span of 2141 to 2168. A handful of small mining settlements were established across the planet that reached peak operating capacity in 2142. Before the turn of the year, however, the planet experienced an unexpected surge in activity from its indigenous plant and animal life.
Prior to human settlement, the planet was a sparsely-oxygenated world just close to classification as a barren planet. By 2160, lush, overgrown jungles of alien flora had spread out from all but a single mining settlement. In parallel was the expansion and rapid evolution of Zaynashev's once-limited animal life. By 2168, plant and animal development slowed to a crawl, but growth across the planet continued unchecked.
It was widely believed that imported plantlife was responsible for the explosion of greenery. Studies conducted in 2149 concluded that native fungi on the planet had incorporated basic elements of imported food crops into their own genetics and, as a result, were able to reap the benefits of their home environment more effectively. Similar reactions chained throughout Zaynashev's biosphere as animals and plants ate or were infested by fast-growing fungal colonies.
The otherwise limited reach of this novel method of adaptation was quickly compounded by the breach of major underground cavern systems by mining operations. Fungal colonies and undiscovered species of both plant and animal life flourished in the dark, disparate underworld of Zaynashev - and, when unsealed, immediately went to work escaping their prisons.
By 2170, calls came from both local colonists and off-world researchers to halt exploitation of the planet to better study and catalogue its native species. It was determined at the time that the original species of the planet, prior to their hybridization with off-world species, were steadily dying out.
Ongoing mining accidents resultant from invasive plantlife and poor returns overall - which contributed to limited prosperity on the colony - sealed the fate of Zaynashev. In 2178, it was, both by the Timosi Republic and outside concerns, redrawn as within the boundaries of the Colonial Exclusion Zone and deemed an independent, autonomous world.
In the midst of the Timosi War, the planet swiftly gained interest as a haven for intellectuals and peace advocates. A population of roughly 5,000 swelled to 10,000 over the course of the war. Difficulties in the war's aftermath and ongoing hostilities between the Timosi and Verinen sent waves of refugees to Zaynashev, while the end of the war encouraged settlers from elsewhere to migrate to the colony.
In 2201, the planet's population had peaked at roughly 18,000 and its infrastructure had grown substantially. Life continued to spread across Zaynashev away from population centers even long after its initial boom in 2141. Population centers maintained a comfortable peace with the planet's biosphere through efficient hunting and defoliation programs developed across the early 2160s. Today, the planet remains a popular stop for intellectuals, primarily in the field of xenobiology.
