THE CHAMBERS OF MYTH
8,000 - 12,000km Below
A placid, frozen wasteland of interwoven tunnels expands across some four thousand kilometers of packed rubble and scarred stone near the outer core of Set. In contrast to the impossibility and chaos of the Glacier, Crusher, and Abyss, the Chambers of Myth are disturbed only by the constant barrage of structures and geological formations. In the Chambers of Myth, reality is skewed only marginally by region. Only subtle shifts in behavior are present between areas. Each is tidily-confined, often restricted to specific tunnels.
The journey for ascending structures begins in the Chambers of Myth. Here, they manifest from nothingness, displacing rock, rubble, and even other structures on arrival. Many have their own histories, forged on other planets. Some saw Set in other lights, alternate histories backed by records without corroboration. Many are Loonies in bunkers, man-made caverns, or even spacecraft. Many more are natural formations, uninhabited and perfectly preserved. All share one thing in common; one way or another, they're going up.
Structures appearing in the Chambers of Myth ascend at different speeds and under different conditions. Some climb at a speed of no more than a millimeter a year and never reach the surface. Some appear as subterranean meteors, rocketing upwards at hundreds of kilometers per hour. Some are subject to natural forces and structural fatigue, and are subsequently crushed by the rock and ruins around them. Some manifest totally invulnerable to physics, displacing even the Crusher's shell on an unstoppable rise upwards. Every story from the Chambers of Myth is different. Few end well.
There is no explanation for the sudden appearances in the Chambers of Myth. There is no explanation for the ascent of the buildings passing through it. There is absolutely no understanding of how the Chambers function, why they function, or what causes them to function. Some theories suggest they are simply a result of the impossibility of the Hollow Glacier and Writhing Abyss. Others claim it to be the workings of the core. Others still suggest it to be an artificial result of the machinery of the Gate of Legend. Facts are utterly absent in all theories. The few accounts of the Chambers and their conditions are primarily from ascending structures - and those few that have reached the surface have rarely had time to explore their birth site.
